Using a laser for teeth whitening has become one of the most popular treatments in recent years. The results can be mind blowing depending on the patient. Teeth whitening can bring your tooth shade up at least five shades, our patients average an eight shade improvement. Shade improvements beyond this level vary from patient to patient. The more stained your teeth, the more noticeable results will be after in surgery teeth whitening. Your teeth can only go so white, therefore if you already have really white teeth prior to teeth whitening, the results will be less noticeable of course.
Laser teeth whitening starts with a quick consultation. Once you are in the chair ready for the treatment, we simply run through a couple teeth whitening preps. A whitening gel is applied to your teeth. This gel is the substance that will give the fantastic results. We then place the laser in front of the mouth area. The laser helps to accelerate the teeth whitening process by opening the pores in the enamel of the teeth. The gels enter the dentin area of the tooth, whitening intrinsically and extrinsically on the surface. The laser teeth whitening process does not change the shape or structure of your teeth in any way.
Once the first 20 minutes are finished, we remove the teeth whitening gels and repeat the above process for another set of 15 to 20 minutes. This is the optimal time for in surgery teeth whitening, including prep time it takes about one hour in total. However, time under the laser can vary depending on the patient and their oral health. Our gels contain desensitising agents, so it is unlikely that you would feel sensitivity from the treatment. In the past, sensitivity was more prominent when using old heat lamp lasers.
